Sinhagad, meaning “Lion’s Fort,” is one of Maharashtra’s most historic forts, dating back over 2,000 years. Perched at an altitude of 4,320 ft, this fort played a crucial role in the Maratha Empire and the Battle of Sinhagad (1670), where Tanaji Malusare, one of Shivaji Maharaj’s bravest warriors, fought valiantly.
The fort offers stunning panoramic views of the Sahyadri mountains, Pune city, and the backwaters of Khadakwasla Dam. It is known for its ancient fortifications, rugged stone pathways, and breathtaking sunrise and sunset points.
Hiking up to the fort is a moderate trek of around 2.5–3 hours, passing through forests, scenic ridges, and waterfalls during monsoon, making it a rewarding and immersive experience.
